About
Hi, I’m Mark. I’m glad I’ve found you.
I created BI Off The Grid as an online resource, to help workplace warriors gain the skills and knowledge to use Power BI confidently, efficiently, and effectively.
Business intelligence tools for analysis and data visualization have never been as accessible and as low cost as they are today. Anybody within a company can create beautiful interactive dashboards and reports using Power BI. If you are the person with that task, I want to help you.
My parents tell me that at the age of 7 I declared I was going to become an accountant. I was either psychic or had no imagination, as 17 years later that is exactly what happened. From my very first day in the working world, I started to develop some Excel skills and it has continued from there.
For over 20 years, I used Excel every day; learning advanced techniques and methods. My favorite tools for reporting automation became Power Query and Power Pivot; both of these are also a key part of Power BI.
Since 2016, I have been sharing my Excel knowledge at Excel Off The Grid. This resulted in receiving Microsoft’s Most Valuable Professional (MVP) award. This is an award given to technology experts who passionately share their knowledge with the community.
Being an Excel user, I resisted the transition to Power BI for a long time. Everything I needed to do, I could do with Excel. But as Power BI developed, all of my objections were removed feature by feature. Now, I see Power BI as the ultimate tool for reporting automation.
By starting BI Off The Grid, I’m not abandoning my Excel roots. Actually, integration between Excel and Power BI is so close that they really are better together.
For everything Excel, head over to Excel Off The Grid. For everything Power BI, you’re in the right place.
